Pricing Solar Roof Panels
Solar panels are quickly becoming the alternative energy solution of choice for homeowners looking to decrease their electric bills. Solar panels integrate easily into building structures or can be employed in the solar roof fashion.
Solar panels also called photovoltaic cells are simple pieces of equipment that do not contain any moving parts. They collect energy directly from sun light and either send the electricity to a storage system, power appliances, solar generator or power the utility grid.
Powering appliances is simple enough, and storing the electricity in a battery system for later use is pretty straight forward. There are times when your storage system is full and you are not using any electricity. When you produce excess electricity it is not wasted but pumped into the grid, turning your electric meter backwards and earning you a credit on your monthly utility bill.
You may ask, why would I remain connected to the grid. If you are in a residential area with utility service it is in your best interest to remain connected to the grid because of the variable nature of solar power. It can be intense at times and nonexistent at others. It is a good idea to have the ability to pull off the grid if you need to.
Price is the main preventative factor when considering solar power. It unfortunately remains the highest priced alternative energy. The normal residential home will need about 300-600 square feet of solar coverage to generate enough electricity to be neutral. This would cost in the neighborhood of $20,000 - $50,000. Expensive yes, but financed over 30 years and included in your mortgage it is still significantly less than a regular utility bill.
There are a few other things to consider. If you are installing solar roof panels you are most likely eco minded and well aware of the fact that it is necessary to take drastic measures to reduce your energy expenditure. There are many things that you can do to cut down on energy costs to get the most out of your solar system.
If installing a solar system in one fell swoop is not an option consider a DIY solar panel system. The materials will still be expensive but you can reduce installation cost and build it as you go. Adding a solar roof is one of the best long term investments that you can make.
