Robotic Pool Cleaners With An Affordable Price Tag? Yes It’s Possible
One of the main reasons why pool owners purchase suction side and pressure side cleaners is not because they are consider better than robotic pool cleaners but because they are typically less expensive. Really, given the choice between a suction or pressure vacuum that requires installation onto your pump and filter systems (often via long hoses that are difficult to handle) and needs supervision and a fully automated pool robot, most pool owners would choose the latter.
Pool robots come with in-built pumps, filters, intelligent navigation systems, obstacle sensors and drive motors. They are connected to your household electricity supply or powered by rechargeable batteries. The reason they are so seductive is that all you have to do is place the robot into the pool and switch it on. The computerized navigation and guidance system steers the robot around your entire swimming pool, sometimes even climbing the walls to reach the scum line. When you return a few hours later, you'll be greeted by a clean and sparking pool.
In the past few years we've seen a number of more affordable robotic pool cleaners come onto the market and we greatly welcome this trend. They're still highly advanced machines that will efficiently clean your pool but priced between $350 and $750. Three models in particular stand out and are definitely worth a closer look if you're a budget minded pool owner looking for a no-hassle approach to cleaning your pool.
1) The Nitro Pool Cleaner - This is a nicely designed, super-light pool robot. At only 8 pounds you'll have no trouble lifting it into and out of the water. The Nitro is a fast cleaner due to its wide cleaning path. The makers claim that it's 40% wider than the industry standard. The Nitro also scores high marks for energy efficiency.
2) The Blue Pearl Pool Cleaner - This machine navigators around your pool following a curved trajectory which the manufactures claim is more efficient than the standard straight line pattern used by most pool robots. The Blue Pearl will climb walls and steps and has sophisticated obstacle sensors to ensure it does not get stuck in tight places.
3) The Aquabot Pool Rover Junior - This is one of the most popular models for owner of in-ground pools. Priced at only $350 it should not be out of reach for most pool owners. The unit will filter thousands of gallons of water per hour while it vacuums away debris. As the unit helps mix and distribute your pool chemicals you'll find your chemical use rate (and associated cost) will also decline considerably.
