I’ve used digital programmable thermostats for years now and I recently got rid of my old Honeywell thermostat and installed a Lux Products TX9000RF Day Universal Programmable Thermostat. I got it for the bargain price of $46 from Amazon.com, and I have to say it’s the best thermostat I’ve ever had.

I did lots of research before buying the Lux TX9000RF. I was fed up with the lack of swing control on my old Honeywell. I wanted a 7 day device but I didn’t want to pay a fortune. I definitely wanted a thermostat that was recommended by Energy Star and I wanted a device with a good range of functions. After reading lots of reviews about programmable thermostats and consulting consumer reports and online instruction manuals I plumped for the Lux Products TX9000RF. I’m very glad I did.

The thermostat came with a clear and comprehensive instruction manual. It was not difficult to install in my living room and I found the programming style straight forward. Perhaps touchscreen programming would be more intuitive, but for the price reduction I’m happy with using buttons.

There are several things I like about the Lux Products TX9000RF thermostat. Firstly, it has 4 periods to set up for each day of the week. This is important to me as my job varies from day to day. I can make sure with this thermostat that I never waste money heating or cooling an empty house.

The Lux Products thermostat holds the temperature well and can cycle the fan to make sure the warm or cool air circulates through the house properly. It also has a swing control up to 2.25 degrees in 0.25 increments that allow me to stop short cycling and protect my HVAC equipment.

There is also a temporary override for quick changes and a vacation mode so I can go away for a few days and come back to a comfortable house.

Furthermore, the smart recovery works well. When I wake up in the morning the house is always a comfortable temperature.

Finally, I like the keyboard lockout feature as I have little girls who love pressing any buttons they can find. The lockout stops them messing with my settings.

I’m convinced this is the best all round digital programmable thermostat I’ve bought yet. It has everything I could want from a thermostat and the price was very reasonable too. The device should pay for itself in energy savings in a few months.
